Pilates is a physical fitness system developed by German born Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century during World War I.  He began rehabilitating detainees who were suffering from diseases and injuries. He rigged springs to hospital beds, enabling bedridden patients to exercise with spring loaded resistance. His brilliance allowed him to create equipment from simple sources available to him, like bed springs and beer keg rings.
These were the unlikely beginnings of the equipment we use today, including the reformer and the magic circle. Spring loading allows for functional eccentric control that is unparalleled by other workout regimens.
When practiced with consistency, you will feel the true benefits of improved posture, increased stamina, strength, flexibility, endurance, improved balance and coordination, efficient movement, and improved concentration with emphasis on alignment and breathing.
Pilates' system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced or to any other level, and also in terms of the instructor and practitioner's specific goals and/or limitations. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts.
